Numerical investigation of co-axial DBD: Influence of relative permittivity of the dielectric barrier, applied voltage amplitude and frequency

چکیده
In this work, a one-dimensional numerical fluid model is developed for co-axial dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) in pure helium and a parametric study is performed to systematically study the influence of relative permittivity of the dielectric barrier and the applied voltage amplitude and frequency on the discharge performance. Discharge current, gap voltage and spatially averaged electron density profiles are presented as a function of relative permittivity and voltage parameters. For the geometry under consideration, both the applied voltage parameters are shown to increase the maximum amplitude of the discharge current peak up to a certain threshold value, above which it stabilized or decreased slowly. The spatially averaged electron density profiles follow a similar trend as the discharge current. Relative permittivity of the dielectric barrier is predicted to have a positive influence on the discharge current. At lower frequency it is also shown to lead a transition from Townsend to glow discharge mode. Spatially and time averaged power density is also calculated and is shown to increase with increasing relative permittivity, applied voltage amplitude and frequency.

For evaluating quality of electrical insulation, it is necessary to measure the property of insulators. Dielectric constant and loss tangent (tans) are two important parameters for determining the property of insulator. The measurement of above parameters is normally based on the time- domain and frequency-domain, which is costly and time consuming. In this study a multiple-frequency binary se...

In this work, a two-dimensional numerical fluid model is developed for a partially packed dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) in pure helium. Influence of packing on the discharge characteristics is studied by comparing the results of DBD with partial packing with those obtained for DBD with no packing. In the axial partial packing configuration studied in this work, the electric field strength ...
متن کاملA Numerical Study of the Sour Gas Reforming in a Dielectric Barrier Discharge Reactor
In this paper, using a one-dimensional simulation model, the reforming process of sour gas, i.e. CH4, CO2, and H2S, to the various charged particles and syngas in a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) reactor is studied. An electric field is applied across the reactor radius, and thus a non-thermal plasma discharge is formed within the reactor. Based on the space...

Background: Dielectric barrier discharge (DBD), a source of non-thermal plasma, is used in surface decontamination. Objective: To study the effect of DBD plasma treatment, we evaluated the effect of plasma exposure time on inactivation of Bacillus subtilis. Results: Applying the DBD plasma to the culture of B. subtilis caused complete sterilization of the surface without any thermal effects. In...
